Description
Greg Brown?s seasoned songwriting, storytelling, and music are deeply rooted in the Midwest, captivating audiences with warmth, humor, a thundering voice and an unpretentious musical vision. For Brown, gospel and hymns, classical, hillbilly, early rock and roll, country, and blues coalesce into a simmering stew of sound. Brown's songwriting has been lauded by many, and his songs have been performed by Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Michael Johnson, Shawn Colvin, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, among others. He has recorded more than 25 albums, including his 1986 release, Songs of Innocence and of Experience, when he put aside his own songwriting to set poems of William Blake to music. Rolling Stone's four-star review of his album Further In called Brown "a wickedly sharp observer of the human condition." Since 2002, he has been married to singer-songwriter Iris DeMent, who played on the Kitchen Sink Series in 2013.
