REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
DAYS PER YEAR: 220 Days
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least six years of successful teaching experience preferred with standard teaching or special education certificate required
- Valid Illinois General Administrative or Principalship endorsement on the Professional Educator Licensure or is working toward or willing to obtain that endorsement is required. Compensation is commensurate with administrative experience.
- Masters Degree in Reading required. Further advanced coursework or degrees preferred
- Must reside in District #186 boundaries
- Coordinate PK-12 research-based, literacy, social sciences, civics and library programs, which are aligned and consistent with State of Illinois standards and District goals to create an intellectual community around related topics.
- Knowledgeable of current research, evidence based teaching strategies and practices in the areas of civics, social sciences and literacy.
- Develop and communicate curriculum guides for educators in cooperation with a variety of stakeholders.
- Knowledgeable of current legislative action regarding literacy, civics and social science topics.
- Coordinate PK-12 literacy and social sciences textbook adoptions aligned to standards and current research.Coordinate and organize a literacy K-8 curriculum adoption during the 2023-2024 school year.
- Serve as member of the Teaching and Learning and Instructional Support Services Teams and collaborate with all content/specialty areas within the department
- Serve as ad-hoc member of Curriculum Council, including taking leadership of literacy, social sciences, civics, and library program revisions, additions, and adoptions for approval.
- Seek staff , family and student voice and input
- Coordinate and provide professional development for PK-12 staff, literacy coaches, literacy interventionists, 6-12 English and Social Studies department chairs, and librarians.
- Assist with elementary summer school teacher professional development and support as required.
- Implement and evaluate literacy and social studies assessment systems with both formative and summative assessments
- Implement and suggest plans of action Multi Tiered Systems of Support and Intervention (MTSS) as well as Early Warning Intervention and Management Systems (EWIMS)
- Write for, implement and evaluate federal, state, district and community grants when available. Interview and assist in assigning and supervising building and district literacy staff members.
- Partner with the Family and Community Engagement Liaisons to support families and community members in support of literacy and civic engagement across the community
- ?Seek to participate in, present at and include educators in Illinois State Board of Education events, professional development, and state-level committees as well as national committees and national professional development opportunities.
- Supervise, evaluated and coordinate Literacy Teacher Instructional Leaders and related departments/staff
- Supervise and coordinate Librarians in the budgeting for and the purchase of PK-12 library and research materials.
- Maintain regular lines of communication open with the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and the Superintendent of District 186.
- Knowledgeable about and participate in supports for School Wide AVID and AVID Strategies K-12.(Advancement Via Individual Determination)
