New Members

In observance of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, Lincoln Land Community College will host the Illinois Freedom Project travelling exhibit from Feb. 11-13 in A. Lincoln Commons on the Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.

The Illinois Freedom Project is a multimedia initiative that teaches about the journey from slavery to freedom in Illinois. A website, videos, printed materials, curriculum and a traveling exhibit share the stories of freedom through the lens of the people, places and events in Illinois history. The exhibit is travelling to Looking for Lincoln communities throughout the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area through 2020.

Lincoln Home interpretive staff will also be on campus talking about Lincoln and his time in Springfield, and there will be opportunities to take a photo with a Lincoln reenactor.

In addition, LLCC Outreach Centers will host Lincoln-themed activities during the week of Feb. 10.

On Feb. 12, noon to 2 p.m., LLCC-Litchfield will host an exhibit of Lincoln artifacts from the Historical Society of Montgomery County, and author Carol Alexander will be on hand at LLCC-Taylorville to share local Lincoln stories. LLCC-Jacksonville will hold a presentation from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Lincoln’s impact in Morgan County.

Throughout the week, LLCC-Beardstown will feature showings of the movie “Lincoln” and personally guided tours of the Old Lincoln Courtroom and Museum.

Information on local Lincoln historic attractions will be available at all locations
