Helping Those Dealing with Loss on the Holidays
The festivities of the holidays can be an especially difficult time for those feeling loss and grief. It can bring back bittersweet memories, amplify loneliness, and stand in stark contrast to their internal feelings. To help individuals come together to share in their grief, obtain helpful resources, and honor their loved ones, the Butler Family of Organizations is hosting a holiday open house on Tuesday, December 2, 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. as a gift to the community.
The program is open to the public and provided at no cost at Butler Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL 62703. Those interested may reserve space by calling 217-544-4646 by Sunday, November 30, but it is not required.
Refreshments, grief materials, activity stations, and a keepsake in memory of lost loved ones will be provided. A service of remembrance and candle-lighting ceremony will conclude the open house starting at 6:15 p.m.
“We have hosted our Holiday Help program to assist people grieving in our community — not just at the moment of loss but on those special occasions — for many years,” says Katie Mendenhall Wilson, Location Manager and Funeral Director for Butler Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center. “This year, we wanted to create a larger impact by making the event an open house. We hope to help even more people move towards healing and happiness.”
The Butler Family of Organizations is comprised of Butler Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center, Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, Lincoln Land Cremation Society, and Roselawn Memorial Park.
