Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Children’s Accounts Unit Clerical Support.  Under general supervision, this position will perform a variety of complex, specialized clerical support services requiring familiarity with computer equipment and software utilized by the unit to determine case location and status.  The position will maintain the Children’s Accounts Unit filing system and retrieve and analyze various computer screens to ascertain the active or inactive status of files.  The position will also receive, sort, open, and distribute incoming mail and provide phone coverage.  This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is detail oriented and interested in playing a supporting role in the Department’s operations.  DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills.  We invite you to join our innovative team to help make a positive difference in the lives of the children and families of Illinois

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Children’s Accounts Unit Clerical Support
  • On a daily basis, prepares file inserts, file folder labels, and records retention documents
  • On a weekly basis, utilizes a computer to update the Children’s Accounts Unit database with regard to files that have been recently created for pending applications
  • On a quarterly basis, independently determines, based on records retention schedules and the case inactivation date, which files are to be archived
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school
  • Requires 1 year of related office experience
