Springfield Memorial Hospital has named Amanda Drain, RN, as the April Colleague of the Month. Drain joined Springfield Memorial Hospital in March 2021 and is appreciated as a dependable, hands-on nurse who supports her team and patients throughout each shift.

Colleagues say Drain is the kind of nurse who never hesitates to step in wherever she is needed, whether that means assisting with a patient’s mobility and personal care or taking on extra tasks when staffing is tight.

“When I see her on the schedule as my nurse, I know I am going to have a good day,” wrote the nominator. “She is always willing to help me out, nothing is beneath her.”

Drain’s colleagues appreciate her leadership when she serves as charge nurse on the unit. She focuses on keeping the day running smoothly for colleagues and patients alike, responding quickly to problems as they arise and helping to coordinate care. If a patient care technician or clerk is floated to another unit, she finds ways to cover the gap, including staying late to update whiteboards with patient schedules for the next day so patients and families know what to expect.

“Amanda genuinely cares about our team and her patients,” wrote the nominator. “As charge, she wants to do everything possible to make sure things run smoothly on the unit, and she troubleshoots problems quickly and appropriately.”
The Colleague of the Month award celebrates Memorial Health colleagues who exemplify excellence in their roles and embody the organization’s mission, vision and values.
