What products and services does your business offer?

The Animal Protective League (APL) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and is the regional leader in ending pet overpopulation by providing affordable spay/neuter services to our community and finding loving homes for healthy, adoptable animals. Since the opening of our low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter clinic in 2006, APL has decreased the euthanasia rate in Sangamon County by 89.49%. We prioritize intake by sick and injured and provide medical care, shelter, food, and enrichment to animals in need. Serving our community is at the heart of our mission. We operate a pet food bank that provided over 11 tons of dog and cat food to community members experiencing financial hardship in 2023. We partner with 6 local nursing homes to provide animal therapy in an effort to boost the morale of the residents and to socialize the animals as we prepare them to be the perfect addition to a family. We offer humane education to the students of District 186 in the Compass for Kids program to teach them how to be responsible pet owners and give the animal(s) a break from shelter life for an afternoon. On the third Saturday of each month, we offer a low-cost vaccine clinic to assist pet owners in keeping their furry family members healthy and to slow/stop the spread of disease among animals in our community. To learn more about these services as well as other services and programs we provide, please visit our website at www.apl-shelter.org.

What is one thing you’d like for people to know about your business?

Every year, the Animal Protective League finds homes for around 2,000 animals and APL’s veterinarians perform around 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries as well as hundreds of other surgeries. We take in thousands of animals every single year; many healthy animals, but also many with a history of abuse, illness, and neglect. We are passionate about providing high-quality care to these animals and making sure they have a chance to live every animal's dream life in a home with a family that loves them. We cannot do this without the support of our community. You can make a difference for an animal in need! Here’s some great ways you can help us: Adopt, foster, volunteer, and/or donate. We need you to help us continue in our mission to save lives! Thank you.
