What products and services does your business offer?
Compass for Kids is a local not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide academic and social-emotional support to empower children and families underserved by our community. Our vision is that all children in our community experience success and reach their full potential. Compass for Kids serves low-income Kindergarten through 12th grade children and youth who attend Springfield Public Schools - District 186. All students are referred based on criteria including risk factors such as homelessness, food insecurity, suspected neglect/abuse, foster care, or having a parent who is incarcerated. Year after year Compass proves the effectiveness of our programs with measurable results. Through involvement with or support of Compass, individuals and businesses have the opportunity to make a significant impact on children who are the future of this community.
Compass operates three programs:
Club Compass: a free, out-of-school time program focused on social-emotional learning for Kindergarten through 5th grade children.
Camp Compass: a free, summer learning program focused on academics, enrichment, and social-emotional learning for Kindergarten through 5th grade children.
Youth Leadership Development Program: a free, out-of-school time program focused on college and career readiness for 6th through 12th grade youth.
What is one thing you'd like for people to know about your business?
Compass for Kids works on educating children as whole persons, and recognizes that social, emotional, and life skills contribute to overall well-being and academic success. Through our organization some of the most vulnerable children in Springfield are offered empowerment, opportunity, and community.
Compass for Kids aims to:
- Close achievement and opportunity gaps
- Prevent summer learning loss
- Improve math and reading skills
- Improve social-emotional skills
The Ambassadors are The Chamber's membership committee. Committee members work to increase awareness of Chamber activities and programs to potential and current members. Ambassadors also serve as Chamber representatives at events such as ribbon cuttings, Chamber on Tap, and Coffee & Connections.
