Springfield, IL—The City of Springfield extends its gratitude to the security team at Lincoln Public Library and the Springfield Police Department for their swift and professional response to an incident on library grounds earlier today.

According to the Deputy Chief of Security, the situation began when an individual attempted to instigate a physical altercation within the library. Library personnel intervened, but the individual became combative, prompting two library security guards to step in. Following established protocols, the security team detained the individual until officers from the Springfield Police Department arrived to take control of the situation.

"We are incredibly proud of the quick thinking and composure demonstrated by our library security staff and law enforcement officers," said Mayor Misty Buscher. "Their actions ensured the safety of everyone present at the library and highlighted their dedication to keeping our public spaces secure."

The City is committed to providing a safe environment for all residents and visitors. Incidents like this highlight the importance of having trained professionals who can handle situations with care and professionalism.
