Springfield, IL—The City of Springfield is alerting residents that false information is circulating regarding a supposed shred event scheduled for tomorrow, October 11, 2024, at Municipal Center West, located at 300 S 7th St, Springfield, IL. This information, which states that residents are invited to securely shred up to six boxes of documents to promote identity protection, appears to be from an unknown source and is likely a scam.

The City has not organized or authorized any such event at this location. Residents are strongly advised not to bring documents to Municipal Center East for shredding. Please be cautious of potential scams, and always verify city-sponsored events through official channels.
