Springfield, Illinois – The City Water, Light and Power Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee is announcing available exam slots for Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 12 p.m. for those interested in starting a career as an Apprentice Electrician at CWLP. The CWLP Electrical Apprenticeship program includes on-the-job training and coursework to provide knowledge and technical information about the various positions. CWLP will be hiring for Linemen and Substation Electricians Apprentices in early 2025.

All applicants for Electrical Apprenticeships must take the National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee’s (NJATC) Electrical Training Alliance online test prior to submitting an application for an electrical apprenticeship with CWLP. Candidates may learn more about the test and use a prep guide available here: https://www.iprep.online/courses/njatc-aptitude-test-free/. All testing requirements and information can be found here: https://www.springfield.il.us/Departments/HumanResources/ElectricalApprentice.aspx. CWLP JATC offers testing sessions at CWLP’s facility at 2730 Old Rochester Road in Springfield.

Those with a prior passing test score of 6 or higher within the past 24 months from the final date to apply will not need to test again if proof is provided. Additionally, any current apprentice and journeyman level electrician who has completed an accredited apprenticeship, which requires a score of 6 or better on the Electrical Training Alliance test and can provide supporting documentation, can skip this test to apply.

Those who need to test and want to apply should sign up for testing by requesting Jobs@CWLP.com  or by calling 217-757-8520 ext. 2226. Scheduling will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Testing will be limited to 12 candidates per session, and each session must be filled before another session opens. Candidates should arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and pay a $15 examination fee. Financial Hardship Waivers for the written exam will be granted to individuals who qualify under the WIC Income Eligibility Guidelines.

Applicants must be 17 years of age or older; be a high school graduate or have a General Equivalency Diploma (GED); have unrestricted 20/20 eyesight (vision correctable to 20/20 accepted) with no color blindness; have valid driver’s license (at time of background investigation); and must be able to obtain an Illinois Commercial Driver’s License if required by the functional area. Full eligibility, exam, and application requirements are available here: https://www.springfield.il.us/Departments/HumanResources/ElectricalApprentice.aspx.
