Hester Named April Colleague of the Month for Springfield Memorial Hospital

SPRINGFIELD – Laure Hester, a unit secretary at Springfield Memorial Hospital, is the nonprofit hospital’s Colleague of the Month for April.

    Hester is considered by many to be the cornerstone of her floor for the past 16 years. She has mentored many colleagues on and off her floor especially techs and unit secretaries. She prioritizes patient safety ensuring fall risk patients have appropriate footing on, and she makes sure fall risk signs are noticeable outside patient rooms. She also does skin checks and makes sure patients have appropriate barriers in place for skin protection.

    “Laure is a wound champion and has assisted several nurses over the years in learning about wound care treatment,” one nominator wrote. “She helps identify patients at high risk for pressure injuries and provides preventive care.”

    Hester also makes sure supplies are distributed to correct patients and taken to their rooms in a prompt manner. Her professional and respectful demeanor is appreciated by many.

    “She has a pleasant attitude and always keeps a smiling face,” the nominator said.

               Hester has worked for Springfield Memorial Hospital since 2008.
