Kidzeum Expands Impact Membership to Include Foster Families

Kidzeum of Health and Science is expanding its Impact Membership program to include licensed foster families, making it easier for more children across Central Illinois to experience hands-on learning, exploration, and discovery.

The museum's Impact Membership offers a full year of unlimited general admission for just $70, covering up to two adults and all children in the household. Previously only available to families participating in WIC or EBT programs, the discounted membership will now also be available to licensed foster parents, regardless of income.

Recognizing the unique circumstances of foster families, Kidzeum has designed the expanded eligibility to accommodate changes in household composition throughout the year. Foster parents will not need to register individual children or update their membership as children enter or leave their care.

"So many youth in foster care face learning delays due to interrupted schooling, neglect, and trauma. Catching up academically is just another hurdle these kids have to face," said Rachael Thomson, CASA volunteer and Kidzeum founder. "Kidzeum offering discounted memberships to foster parents is a big deal. It provides a fun, safe space where kids can explore and learn at their own pace, without the pressure of keeping up with their classmates. Kidzeum is bridging the learning gap in a very meaningful way."

For children navigating transitions in their lives, familiar spaces and shared experiences can be especially meaningful. Through interactive exhibits and educational programming focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM), Kidzeum offers opportunities for children to explore their interests, develop problem-solving skills, and see themselves as capable learners.

The expanded Impact Membership is part of Kidzeum's ongoing commitment to making STEAM education accessible to children and families of all backgrounds and circumstances.

Licensed foster parents interested in purchasing an Impact Membership can visit Kidzeum at 412 E. Adams Street in downtown Springfield and provide proof of their foster parent license.
