Knutelski celebrates 25 years with Hanson

Jim Knutelski, P.E., G.E., senior geotechnical engineer, recently celebrated 25 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc. 

Knutelski, who joined the Springfield headquarters in 2000, performs geotechnical and forensic engineering investigations; provides foundation, geotechnical and seismic design recommendations; inspects the safety of dams and levees; and manages construction inspection services. He has provided services for projects including the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Simmons Cancer Institute, Springfield Rail Improvements Project and Stanford Avenue extension in Springfield; geotechnical and subsurface investigations for Ameren; various projects across the country for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and the replacement of the Interstate 74 bridge over the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities. He has provided on-site engineering services for projects worldwide, including in Colombia, Mexico, Equatorial Guinea and South Korea. He also assisted the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance Program for Hurricane Maria disaster recovery efforts by serving as a joint site inspector and program delivery manager for nine months in Puerto Rico.

He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 1991 and 2002, respectively, from the University of Missouri – Rolla. He is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including Illinois, and a licensed civil engineer and geotechnical engineer in California. He is a member of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials.
