Springfield, IL—The City of Springfield’s Lincoln Library invites the community to a special Black History Month Program at Lincoln Library on Wednesday, February 28, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Carnegie Room (326 S. 7th St). This event will honor historic milestones in Springfield’s leadership and highlight the landmark representation within the City of Springfield.
The program will highlight significant achievements, including:
- The most Black Alderpeople ever serving simultaneously on the Springfield City Council.
- The highest number of Black directors appointed to a mayor’s cabinet in Springfield’s history.
- The most significant representation of Black officers in the Springfield Police Department’s history.
“Representation matters and this program is an opportunity to recognize the dedicated individuals who continue to shape our city’s future,” said Mayor Misty Buscher. “We encourage the community to join us in celebrating these historic milestones and the progress we continue to make together.”
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, scan the QR code on the event flyer or visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KJLQQFM
