SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — HSHS St. John’s Foundation invites area residents to lace up their running shoes for premature and critically ill infants at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital by participating in the Little Miracles 5K set for June 21 at Springfield’s Washington Park.
The annual event began in 2016, part of a fundraising effort for a multimillion-dollar renovation and upgrade of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at St. John’s Children’s Hospital. The NICU annually serves over 700 infants across an 80-mile radius as the only level III NICU in the region. The newly expanded unit opened in 2021, yet the popular 5K run/walk continues as a fundraiser.
“We are grateful for our local communities’ support of our tiniest patients by participating in the 10th annual Little Miracles 5K,” said Brandy Grove, HSHS System Director, Foundation Strategy and Operations. “I love seeing families, groups of friends and kids having fun while running or walking through Springfield’s beautiful Washington Park.”
Participants 18 and older can register for a 3K or 5K race for adults, with the same options for youth aged 9 through 17. All entrants who finish their race will receive a medal, while the first, second and third-place finishers for male and female entrants in both the 3K and 5K will receive awards.
Early registration ends May 16, after which entry fees increase. Register for the event at the following link: https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Springfield/miraculefunrun
