Media Advisory: UIS and the UIC College of Nursing Springfield Campus to host a “Nurse for a Day” program for high school students

WHAT:       The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) and the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Nursing Springfield campus will host a “Nurse for a Day” program for local high school students. Participants will explore nursing and athletic training facilities at UIS and have the opportunity to ask questions about applying to the pre-nursing program.
 
WHEN:       9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, and Wednesday, Sept. 18
 
WHERE:    UIC College of Nursing Springfield (located on the UIS campus), 2399 Nelson Algren Lane, Springfield
 
DETAILS:  Students will participate in a nursing simulation lab featuring high-tech manikins for a realistic health care experience, and attend a panel discussion with current nursing students. The UIS Medical Laboratory Science and Athletic Training facilities will also be showcased. Memorial Health will host a career panel, and UIS Admissions will be available to speak with students interested in applying to the pre-nursing program.
 
Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree can apply to UIS as freshmen and simultaneously apply for Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions, which provides automatic admission to the UIC Nursing program in their junior year.
