Beginning Thursday, October 9, CWLP’s Water Department will move to the next phase of a project to relocate 2,000 feet of a 24-inch water main for the Springfield Rail Improvements Project on North Grand Avenue. This phase of work, expected to last four weeks, requires opening and closing 11th Street from Reservoir Street to North Grand Avenue.

This project represents part of the City of Springfield’s match towards the Springfield Rail Improvements Project and is the largest of the multi-year project thus far. The work to relocate the water main for this underpass is estimated to cost $4.8 million. It is part of a total $10.2 million investment by the CWLP Water Fund for relocations and upgrades of water infrastructure. One more phase of work, planned for the North Grand Avenue underpass, is expected to be completed this fall.

Traffic lanes will remain closed for this phase of work until surface pavement repairs are completed, around the week of November 10.  Motorists should plan to take alternative routes to avoid delays and should slow down and drive with caution around this work zone.
