The sta􀆯 of Prairie Engineers is proud to celebrate its 15th anniversary. This marks a decade and a half of purposeful growth, trusted client partnerships, and a flexible, people-first culture. Since its founding in 2010 by President and Owner Lisa Kramer, the company has grown from a one-person startup into a multidisciplinary powerhouse. Currently, there are more than 100 employees across 12 o􀆯ices in five states.

From day one, Prairie Engineers set out to deliver practical, lasting infrastructure solutions in service of communities, the public at large, and the environment. With expertise spanning across engineering, environmental science, and geospatial services, the company supports clients across four key markets and six technical disciplines. Over the past 15 years, Prairie has steadily expanded its capabilities, client base, and geographic reach, while staying true to its values of a can-do attitude, responsiveness, and people-first teamwork.

A Vision Built on Curiosity, Collaboration, and Can-Do Spirit

When Lisa Kramer incorporated Prairie Engineers in August 2010, she didn’t foresee the full scale of what it would become. However, she always believed in solving complex problems through a strong team and genuine relationships.

“I don’t think I dreamed quite this big, but it’s been an exciting journey. What motivates me the most
isn’t just the projects we win; it’s the people we add. Every person brings new skills, perspectives, and
energy to our team.” – Lisa Kramer

Much of Prairie’s growth has come organically, building new o􀆯ices around strong talent, even before client demand in that geography. This unique, people-driven model has resulted in a nimble, connected team that thrives across time zones, disciplines, and regions.

A Flexible Culture That Fuels Success

At the heart of Prairie Engineers’ success is a flexible, collaborative culture. Sta􀆯 have adapted to hybrid and remote work environments with ease, maintaining high performance and tight-knit team relationships. The team stays connected through regular check-ins, monthly all-sta􀆯 meetings, and virtual collaboration tools.

“Flexibility is really the word that defines who we are. Our people step up across roles and
geographies to support one another. That’s how we’ve built a strong, high-functioning team.”

With many fully remote employees and small teams spread across locations, intentional communication and cross-o􀆯ice relationships have been key. “We work across disciplines, share knowledge, and make space to celebrate individual and group wins,” Kramer added.
