SPRINGFIELD, IL- The Springfield Fire Department is proud to announce the ceremonial grand opening of the newly constructed Fire Station No. 6, a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance our community's public safety and emergency response capabilities.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 10:00 am, at Fire Station #6, 2121 South 11th Street. There will also be an open house on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 9:00 am to noon. Community members are invited to join city officials, elected leaders, fire department staff, and first responders as we celebrate this milestone.

Fire Station No. 6 Highlights:

Modern Design: Built with the latest technology and sustainable features.
•Enhanced Response Time: Strategically located to respond on arterial roads to improve response times.
•Community Space: This includes a community room for public use and educational outreach.
•Improved Safety: Equipped with advanced firefighting equipment and firefighter safety improvements.

Fire Chief Canny remarks, “This new station embodies our dedication to the safety and welfare of our residents. With this facility, our committed firefighters will have the essential resources to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies in the community.”

The event will include guided tours of the facility, opportunities to meet local firefighters, and a visit from Santa just a few days before Christmas. This is a chance for the community to see firsthand the investments made in public safety and to celebrate the teamwork that made this project possible.
