The Rotary Club of Peoria North will present a check for $40,000 to Illinois Central College to establish a perpetual endowed scholarship within their Workforce Equity Initiative.

The earnings from this endowed scholarship will provide an education in high-demand technical and trade fields to a full or part-time student demonstrating financial need. The scholarship may cover eligible expenses such as tuition, books, transportation, childcare and any other academically related needs.

Mike Unes, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at ICC, says this is a “life changing opportunity that impacts countless lives.”

The funds for this scholarship come from the Rotary Club of Peoria North Foundation’s Robert J. Lamoureaux Endowment Fund, created to “provide assistance to pursue post high school educational efforts to students requiring help.”

Bob Lamoureaux was a long-time club member described as having “always a smile, quick wit and silently generous.” He was a sales rep at Caterpillar for 31 years and a World War II Army veteran. After Bob’s death in 2007, his wife established the fund to continue his wishes “to assist deserving students in need of financial help” to complete their education at a college, university or trade school.

Lynn Coleman, Peoria North Foundation President, says the scholarship, “Is a perfect fit that Bob would have loved and gives us the opportunity to grant scholarships based solely on need.”
