The Springfield Art Association (SAA) will kick off the 12th annual “Paint the Street” presented by PNC Bank. The unique, outdoor event will be hosted in downtown Springfield from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., June 28, along a designated area on Washington Street where local artists will express their talent by painting on 6’ x 6’ squares.

“The SAA is thrilled to have PNC back again to help us draw the community downtown to showcase colorful creativity by a range of artists. We encourage families to join on the fun and explore their potential in expressing creativity through paint!” said Betsy Dollar, executive director of the Springfield Art Association.

This is the ninth year PNC Bank has supported the event as presenting sponsor.

“PNC understands the impact arts and culture have in creating enriching experiences for our community. We’re proud to support the Springfield Art Association and all that they do to encourage artists of all skills and ages to embrace their talents and creativity year-round,” said Brian Ray, PNC regional president of central Illinois.

To participate, individuals or groups may purchase a 6’ x 6’ square of Washington Street. Each participant will receive a unique event bag with paint supplies, including brushes and washable tempera paint, sponsor giveaway, and an exclusive Paint the Street t-shirt. While the SAA provides the paints, etc., participants are encouraged to bring their own tents, umbrellas, kneepads, and other supplies.

Registration is now open for “Paint for Fun” and “Competitive” squares. Competitive squares, available to all artists, must be registered before June 23. However, “Paint for Fun” squares are open to all ages and skill levels until June 25 online, with the option to purchase on the day of the event for an additional fee.

The registration fees are as follows:
- Paint for Fun Square: $30 for members / $35 for the general public
- Competitive Artist Square: $40 for members / $45 for the general public

For those interested in the competitive aspect, a panel of art professionals will judge the “Competitive” squares, with the potential to win cash prizes:
- First Place: $350
- Second Place: $250
- Third Place: $150
