Springfield Fire Department Announces Promotion of Captain Jake Maxedon Following Retirement of Division Chief Todd Taylor

The Springfield Fire Department has announced the promotion of Captain Jake Maxedon to Division Chief of Fire Safety and Fire Marshal, effective March 7, 2026, following the retirement of Division Chief Todd Taylor after nearly 25 years of dedicated service.
 
Division Chief Maxedon brings 28 years of fire service experience to the role, including 18 years with the Springfield Fire Department. He holds a degree in Fire Science from Pikes Peak State College and has completed extensive specialized training, earning certifications as Fire Inspector I & II, NFA Plans Examiner, Arson Investigator, and Advanced Forensic Fire Death Investigator.
 
As Division Chief of Fire Safety and Fire Marshal, Maxedon will lead fire safety operations and oversee enforcement of the Fire Code to help protect Springfield’s residents, visitors, businesses, and first responders.
“I am honored to serve the City of Springfield as Division Chief of Fire Safety and Fire Marshal,” said Maxedon. “My responsibility is to ensure the Fire Code is upheld so that our residents, visitors, businesses, and firefighters are protected every day.”
 
Mayor Misty Buscher praised the promotion while also recognizing the department’s leadership transition. “Captain Maxedon’s experience and dedication to public safety make him well suited to take on this leadership role,” said Mayor Buscher. “As we congratulate him on this well-earned promotion, we also extend our sincere gratitude to Division Chief Todd Taylor for nearly 25 years of outstanding service to our community. His leadership and commitment have left a lasting legacy within the Springfield Fire Department, and we wish him the very best in his retirement.”
 
Reflecting on his retirement and the transition, Taylor said, “After nearly 25 years of service with the Springfield Fire Department, I am announcing my retirement from my position as City Fire Marshal. It has been an honor to serve this community alongside so many dedicated professionals. I am especially pleased to share that Captain Jacob Maxedon will be promoted to fill the role of Fire Marshal. I have had the privilege of working alongside Captain Maxedon for the past five and a half years, and I have the utmost confidence in his leadership, integrity, and commitment to this department and our community. I know he will do an outstanding job in this role.”
 
The Springfield Fire Department thanks Division Chief Todd Taylor for his years of dedicated service to the department and the City of Springfield.
