UIS online bachelor’s degree programs ranked among the top 40 in the United States

SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois Springfield’s online bachelor’s degree programs have been ranked among the top 40 in the nation in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings released today.

UIS’ online bachelor’s programs placed 39th out of 350 institutions, climbing six spots from last year. In the Best Online Bachelor's Programs for Veterans category, UIS ranked 20th, an improvement of 11 spots. Additionally, the UIS online bachelor’s degree in psychology was ranked 21st in the nation, while the online bachelor’s degree in business administration ranked 41st, up nine spots.

In the Best Online Master’s in Business Programs category, UIS ranked in the top 43% of programs nationally (88 out of 205) and was the 36th best program for veterans. Degrees in this category include master’s programs in finance, healthcare informatics, human resources management and management information systems.

The UIS online MBA program ranked in the top 46% of programs nationally (163 out of 355) and was named the 96th best program for veterans.

In the Best Online Master’s in Education Programs category, UIS was ranked in the top 45% of programs (142 out of 313) nationwide.

“These rankings affirm UIS’ commitment to providing flexible, high-quality online education,” said Vickie Cook, UIS vice chancellor for enrollment and retention management. “Our faculty and staff are dedicated to creating an innovative and supportive learning environment that helps students achieve their educational and career goals.”

U.S. News evaluated the best online bachelor’s degree programs by analyzing factors such as student engagement, access to services and technologies, faculty credentials and training and peer assessment. Programs that promote active participation and meaningful interaction between students and instructors scored higher, along with those offering strong support services. Faculty qualifications and the results of peer assessment surveys by academic leaders also played a significant role.

UIS offers 30 online bachelor’s programs in business administration, communication, computer science, criminology and criminal justice, education, English, history, information systems security, international and global studies, liberal studies, management information systems, mathematical sciences, philosophy, political science, psychology and public and nonprofit administration. UIS also offers 28 online graduate degrees.

As of the fall semester of 2024, UIS enrolled 1,967 online majors. More than 83.2% of UIS students take at least one online course, with online learners residing in 43 states, 88 Illinois counties and 19 foreign countries.
