UIS to host Black History Month opening candlelight vigil

WHAT:       The University of Illinois Springfield Diversity Center will host a candlelight vigil to mark the start of Black History Month.
 
WHEN:       6-7 p.m. Feb 2
 
WHERE:    UIS Student Union, 2251 Richard Wright Drive, Springfield
 
DETAILS: The opening celebration will honor Black culture, history and excellence through art and community reflection. The annual candlelight vigil is designed to create space for connection, healing and collective care while setting the tone for a month of education, empowerment and unity on campus.
 
The event launches a series of Black History Month programs that will take place throughout February.
 
The event is open to UIS students only; however, members of the media are welcome to attend.
