UIS Unveils Innovative 2024 Summer Courses

The University of Illinois Springfield is excited to introduce its lineup of future-oriented summer courses for 2024. UIS is offering more than 250 courses starting June 3 for students who want to learn on campus or online.

“These classes are a great tool for current UIS students and students from any college or university who needs a course or two to continue their education over the summer,” said Vickie Cook, UIS vice chancellor for enrollment and retention management. “Reduced fees this year make it more affordable than ever to work toward your goals.”

Many of the courses being offered this summer address emerging trends showcasing UIS' commitment to providing innovative education:

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (CSC 479): Addressing growing concerns about cloud security affecting cloud computing adoption, this course delves into security challenges and countermeasures specific to cloud environments. Students will gain an overview of cloud computing and its critical technologies, covering topics such as access control, identity management and data security.
  • Business Process Modeling and IT Governance (MIS 567): Empowering students to learn methodologies for redesigning optimal business processes and utilizing information technologies to drive process innovation. Through hands-on practice, students explore techniques for process modeling, simulation, analysis and redesign. Additionally, they delve into enterprise governance of information technology to support business process management.
  • Cloud Security (CSC 570): This course provides a comprehensive examination of security challenges and mitigation strategies within cloud environments, addressing the significant impact of cloud security concerns on cloud computing adoption. Students will gain insights into access control, identity management and data security, crucial for ensuring the integrity of cloud-based systems.
  • Introduction to 5G, IoT, and Cloud (CSC 470): Offering an overview of fifth-generation (5G) wireless systems, the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing, this course explores how these technologies intersect to create innovative services. Topics include 5G characteristics, IoT architecture, cloud computing paradigms and synergies between these technologies.
  • Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (EXR 352): Providing a comprehensive overview of health promotion and disease prevention, this course covers strategies for promoting health and wellness, understanding epidemiological terminology and exploring behavioral and environmental contributors to illness and injury.
  • Healthcare System Analysis and Design (HCI 552): Equipping students with theoretical and practical techniques in healthcare information systems analysis and design, this course prepares them for roles in informatics, business analysis and systems analysis within the healthcare industry. Topics include Electronic Health Record (EHR) analysis, design and modeling.
  • Public Service Ethics and Leadership (PAD 538): Focused on ethical issues encountered by public service professionals, this course explores various sources of guidance for ethical decision-making. Emphasizing public value leadership, students learn to navigate administrative discretion in a manner that upholds ethical standards and promotes public welfare.
