Downtown Springfield, Inc. (DSI) is excited to support Vault 66 Pinball and Dumb Records in the announcement of downtown’s newest all-ages destination. An expanded collaboration between property owner Chris Nickell and the team at Dumb Records will be unveiled at a ribbon cutting event on Saturday, Aug. 1.
With one wristband, visitors can enjoy unlimited, all-you-can-play access to both the Dumb Records and Vault 66 arcades – and the latter, located at 409 E. Adams St., is doubling in size to include arcade favorites like Pac-Man, Super Mario and Mortal Kombat II.
The newly expanded Vault 66 includes:
- 13 pinball machines, including modern Stern machines and 1990s classics
- A second room of arcade favorites from the 80s, 90s and 00s
- A rotating lineup of featured games inside the building's former bank vault
- And plans to introduce monthly game rotations, tournament and league nights, arcade contests and private party rentals
“If you like our arcade at Dumb Records, you’re going to love the expanded space,” said Dumb Records co-owner Brian Galecki. “We’re committed to serving all ages of Springfield, and this collaboration has expanded the footprint of youth-friendly third space downtown tremendously. We’re excited for what the future holds with this collaboration.”
Vault 66 will also increase its hours starting Aug. 1, with the arcade open 11 a.m. - 8 p.m Tuesdays through Fridays, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Saturdays and 12 - 6 p.m. Sundays. Vault 66 is closed on Mondays.
“This is the type of collaboration that happens downtown,” said DSI executive director Jay Shanle. “We’re happy to see this align with our resident-first approach. There’s a growing call for more family-friendly options and this type of growth answers that. We’re elated for both businesses – and as a parent, I can’t wait to bring my kiddos after our next visit to Kidzeum across the street.”
DSI will host a ribbon cutting event for the newly expanded space at 409 E. Adams St. during the Old Capitol Farmers Market on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. Food will be available to purchase from Creole Smoke and Simply Natured outside from 3 - 8 p.m. Special goodie bags will be available to guests purchasing a wristband during opening day, while supplies last.
