SPRINGFIELD — Derek Matlock of Pawnee, instructor of heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration (HVACR) at Lincoln Land Community College’s Workforce Institute, was recently recognized as a recipient of a 2025 NISOD Excellence Award. New LLCC solar array delivering major energy savings and environmental benefits
SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land Community College has completed installation of its newest solar array behind the Child Development Center at 5090 Shepherd Road in Springfield. The state-of-the-art ground-mounted system is now fully operational and generating renewable energy for the center. Funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN), the solar array is projected to offset 100% of the LLCC Child Development Center’s electrical consumption and reduce carbon emissions by nearly 72

Community Foundation Awards Nearly $240,000 in Scholarships, Including Student of the Year
SPRINGFIELD – The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln announced 102 scholarship awards and scholarship renewals for 2025 totaling nearly $240,000. These scholarships were made possible through charitable funds established at the Community Foundation by more than 43 individuals, families and organizations. LLCC offering free Media Makers Camps
SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College is offering free Media Makers Camps for high school students and recent graduates June 2-July 24 in which students can get an introductory, inside-look at the field of 21st-century graphic design, also known as integrated media design. The camps will be held at LLCC-Medical District, 130 W. Mason St., Springfield. Each camp is four days with morning (9 a.m. to noon) and afternoon (1-4 p.m.) options. SPRINGFIELD — Eleanor Stuckey, Lincoln Land Community College student from Springfield, and Dean Butzow, LLCC professor of geography from Chatham, were honored at the Illinois Geographical Society’s annual awards banquet held in Vincennes, Ind. on April 25. Stuckey received the Charles Womack Award, which was established to honor the memory and spirit of Charles “Chuck” Womack, geography professor at Lakeland Community College. LLCC student wins gold at Illinois SkillsUSA Competition
SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College student Mary Wichman, of Chatham, took home the gold medal in baking and pastry arts from the 2025 Illinois SkillsUSA Championship held April 24-26 in Peoria. The win qualifies her to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference to be held in Atlanta, Ga., June 23-27, 2025.
