Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Background Check Specialist. Under general direction, this position will provide input into regulating, monitoring, and controlling the Department’s Background Check Unit, serving as liaison between the licensing workers and employers in facilities licensed by the Department. The position will develop and provide comprehensive complex, database reports, utilizing extensive knowledge and understanding of multiple software programs. The position will also receive and evaluate Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System results and criminal history rep sheets to determine what information is appropriate to be sent to licensing workers/employers for review and recommendation. This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is detail oriented and interested in playing a supporting role in the Department’s licensing operations. Essential Functions
- Serves as Background Check Specialist
- Prepares and keyboards documents which impact program policies and procedures, as well as confidential documents related to the performance of unit personnel
- Develops and provides comprehensive complex database reports, utilizing extensive knowledge and understanding of multiple software programs, which include highly confidential data for distribution to licensing workers/employers
- Receives and evaluates CANTS documents/criminal history rap sheets to determine what information is appropriate to be sent to licensing workers/employers for review and recommendation
- Prepares correspondence using Department-authorized forms to inform licensing workers/employers of pertinent information needing to be assessed and returned to the Department for review
- Attends staff development and training sessions to enhance knowledge and expertise
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college and one year of office experience
OR completion of high school and three years of office experience
OR three years of independent business experience
- Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in an office setting applying extensive knowledge of office practices and procedures
- 3 years of experience in an office setting applying extensive knowledge of the logic of computer language/programs
- 3 years of experience in an office setting applying extensive knowledge of manual and automated office equipment
