Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, energetic individual to serve as Print Shop Supervisor. Under general direction, this position will serve as working supervisor of staff engaged in printing operations.  The position will manage and supervise the operation of the Xerox Docutecs and/or off-set system, power and manual paper cutters, automatic collating and folding machines, and plate-making machines.  The position will provide advice regarding reproduction capabilities and possible problems with original documents.  This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is interested in managing the Department’s printing processes to ensure the efficient production of printed materials. Essential Functions

  • Serves as Print Shop Supervisor
  • Serves as working supervisor
  • Facilitates statewide printing operations specific to dry/photocopier production/printing
  • Conducts ongoing reviews of workflow and operational efficiencies
  • When operational needs dictate, operates one or more large xerographic and/or other direct process duplicators
  • Consults with supervisor and Agency Administrators to plan for special printing and duplicating projects
  • Provides recommendations and justifications in the development of annual budget requests for operations
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.
  • Requires one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program

Specialized Skills

  • Of the noted one year of experience, requires that the experience include one year of direct production supervisory experience in a high-volume, high-speed copier print shop or one year of experience conducting the operations of a high-volume high-speed copier print shop

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience serving as supervisor in a high-volume, high-speed copier print shop
  • 5 years of experience conducting the operations of a high-volume, high-speed copier print shop
  • 2 years of experience conducting bindery, collation, and other equipment operations, maintenance, and repair
  • 2 years of experience directing and coordinating the production of materials in an efficient manner in a public or business organization
  • 2 years of experience estimating and budgeting for future equipment needs in a public or business organization

  2. This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567 (c). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
