SPRINGFIELD, IL; May 7, 2025 - The 26th season of the Old Capitol Farmers Market, presented by HSHS St. John's begins next week with a soft opening on May 14 and a ribbon cutting on May 17 at 9:00am. Every market begins at 8:00am and ends at 12:30pm, with the season continuing on each Wednesday and Saturday through October 25. This morning-focused schedule allows vendors and patrons to avoid the scorching heat that can come with Illinois summers, while also giving downtown employees a chance to visit the market during their breaks on Wednesdays.

As the Old Capitol Farmers Market enters its 26th season, a focus is continually placed on connections and community. This season’s ribbon cutting, which will begin at 9:00am on May 17, will feature remarks from Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, State Senator Doris Turner, Mayor Misty Buscher, and Ward 5 Alderwoman Lakeisha Purchase. Remarks will also be given by a representative of HSHS St. John’s and Bella Szabo, Director of the Springfield Area Arts Council. Following all remarks, complimentary cake will be served by Incredibly Delicious.

Along with forming a sense of connection among community members, the Old Capitol Farmers Market supports local farmers, business, and artisans. The Old Capitol Farmers Market is a producer only market, meaning all items must be directly and personally homegrown, handmade, and/or created from locally-owned operations within the state of Illinois. Furthermore, all artisans are vetted and approved by the Springfield Area Arts Council. These initiatives ensure that market patrons are able to purchase high-quality food, beverages, and artisanal items.

The Old Capitol Farmers Market also supports the community by offering Link Match, a program that doubles the value of SNAP/Link (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) purchases at the market. The market also partners with Grace Lutheran Food Pantry to connect volunteers with market vendors who are interested in donating food products.
