Shaping Downtown Springfield will host four community conversations to discuss the marketing and community materials of downtown
Springfield, Illinois - Downtown Springfield Inc. (DSI) will host a new series of community conversations starting April 4. The initiative, titled Shaping Downtown Springfield, focuses on how DSI promotes and markets the individual neighborhoods within downtown.
As community materials like signage and maps need to be replaced and updated, DSI is looking to better utilize these assets. At the event, members from the DSI team will present ideas on tackling downtown wayfinding issues, and members of the community are invited to share ideas and ask questions.
"We're excited to include community feedback in the earliest stages of this project," says Carlos Ortega, DSI Executive Director. "Downtown is both literally and metaphorically the core of our community. And when you think about downtown, there are so many vibrant neighborhoods within that area. Bringing in our neighbors is the only way we can authentically capture the voice of downtown."
Shaping Downtown Springfield will include four two-hour community conversations held at different locations, and at different times, throughout April and May.
The first is Friday, April 4 at the Downtown YMCA (601 N. 4th St) from 9 - 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will beserved. Individuals interested in attending can find more information on Facebook.
